No Chemo Today...

We went to Adair's appointment this morning and his blood counts were too low to start the next round of chemo. His platelets were only at 11 and they need to be at least 90 before the doctor will give him more chemo. I will be giving him Neupogen shots (white blood cell boosters) for 5 days then we will try again on Monday. I pray he's ready on Monday because everyday chemo is delayed there is an opportunity for the cancer to grow! Delays give me anxietus maximus (no, probably not a real word but Adair and I say it when regular ol' anxiety isn't enough) :)

The doctor is still very positive about Adair's progress. His HCG level went from about 1750 down to 35 within the last 3 weeks. The doctor said that maybe after 2 or 3 more rounds of chemo if the cancer is gone or nearly gone they can possibly change his treatment to something that isn't so harsh, something more for maintenance. Not exactly sure what that will be but from what I understood it's something that would be done at home so the hospital stays would be over. Sounds great to us!!

When Adair was in the hospital for his last round of chemo, one of the nurses gave him 2 books. The first was "The Tao Te Ching of Lao Tzu" and the other a bible. Adair had somehow gotten into a discussion with some of the staff about religion (he has a lot of time to kill when he's in the hospital, and the staff really likes him so when they're not busy they talk). So anyway, Adair has been reading the first book and finds it very interesting. He said that he doesn't see it as a religion but more a way of life. I haven't read the entire book yet, just skimmed over it but Adair wanted me to share this from the book...

"Be Done With Knowing And Your Worries Will Disappear"...

To Adair this simply means don't spend so much time worrying about what MIGHT happen in the future, just live in the moment. So much of our stress comes from freaking out about things that haven't even happened. It's really easy to do but Adair is making a concerted effort to take everyday as it comes and it seems to be working for him. He has been in really good spirits lately. Ah, I love my husband...

I will update on Monday. Take care and God bless...
